The IRS has many due dates during tax season. For the 2021 tax season, the IRS started accepting tax returns on January 24, 2022. This is the date that they open up the e-file system and start processing tax returns.

W2’s and 1099’s must be postmarked by January 31, 2022.

Your next important date is March 15, 2022, this is when Partnership and S Corporation Tax Returns are due to the IRS. For those who own Partnership or S Corporations, these pass-through entities, will issue you a K-1 so you can add this information on your personal tax return.

Tax Due this year is April 18, 2022, due to Emancipation Day falling on Saturday, April 16, 2022, so Washington DC is observing this holiday on Friday, April 15, 2022, which pushes Tax Day to Monday, April 18, 2022. Depending on your Tax Preparer, this may give you a couple ofextra days to get your taxes done. Personal and C Corporation tax returns are due on April 18, 2022.

*Now, this is very important: Taxes are due on Tax Day, that is the money that is owed. Filing an extension is only allowing you to file your tax return at a later date, not the amount owed in taxes. You will receive a penalty if you don’t pay on Tax Day and wait to pay when you file your tax return. *

The IRS allows you to file a 6-month extension giving you until September 15, 2022, to file your Partnership and S Corporation returns and Monday, October 17, 2022, to file your Personal and C Corporation returns.

Make sure you have all your paperwork and schedule your appointments in timely manner to get your taxes completed. There are some tax preparers out there, that won’t accept appointments after a certain date, and make you file for an extension.
